Powerful Science 9/11 Samsessions

One of 31st/Chi's personal favorite up and coming bands, Powerful Science, is an eccentric pop group from Lincoln, NE that consists of John Freidel, Peter Kapinos, and Joshua Miller. Their debut album, 9/11 Samsessions, can be purchased/downloaded here. In a recent conversation with band member John Freidel, he mentioned that Powerful Science will soon be going on a short Midwest tour. He also mentioned that Powerful Science is already hard at work on new material. Both bits of information have us pretty excited and we'll be sure to keep you updated. For now, enjoy 9/11 Samsessions album. As of now Powerful Science's only scheduled upcoming show is at Bourbon w/ Free Energy (14th and O) in Lincoln, NE on Tuesday, December 7 at 9pm. Powerful Science: "Embrace The Bomb"

Powerful Science is preparing to drop their debut LP this fall. A title for the album has yet to be determined, but "Embrace The Bomb" is likely to be in the track listing. The video for the song was shot here in Omaha, NE last weekend.

We spoke with band member John Freidel and here is what he had to say about it: "Pretty weird days in omaha over the weekend. This is one of two videos we've made thus far for Powerful Science. We recorded it and shot it (obviously) live. Pretty legit in that regard and super goofy/mocking of 90's videos. Not sure when we'll release the next one, pretty soon I'm thinking. As far as the album goes, we haven't decided on a title and we are still in the process of recording but it should drop some time this fall."

Green Trees

Green Trees is a solo side project by John Freidel in Lincoln, NE, where he currently resides. His sound could best be described as an experimental, lo-fi electro-pop. I would compare it to an early Grizzly Bear sound from Horn of Plenty with a bit more shoegaze and a few more light-hearted lyrics. Listen and decide for yourself. His influences are far and wide including The Beatles, Elliott Smith, Brian Eno, Al Green, Noah Lennox, Jimmy Ruffin, and many more as you can tell from his sound. He just released his Weather Ethics EP as a free download at this Green Trees host site.
John is also one of three members in the electro-pop group Powerful Science along with Peter Kapinos, and Joshua Miller. Powerful Science has a show upcoming at Duffy's Tavern in Lincoln, NE on Sunday, August 22 at 9:00pm.
